TOCA Student · Lesson 03

Slow is the level

Slow is not a lack of level.

For dancersBy Dawou Tarraxo

  1. Slowness reveals everything speed can hide.
  2. Your balance.
  3. Your weight transfer.
  4. Your control and connection.
  5. If the movement only works fast, you do not own it yet.
  6. Practice it slowly enough to feel every transition.
  7. The finest dancers still return to the foundations.
Your practice question

Can you dance it at half speed?

Go deeper

Slow is not a lack of level in Tarraxo. It is the test.

Slowness reveals everything speed hides. Your balance. Your weight transfer. Your control. If a movement only works fast, you do not own it yet, you are just getting away with it.

Take one figure you think you know and dance it at half speed tonight. Every transition should be felt, and you should be able to stop at any instant without wobbling.

The finest dancers I know still go back to the foundations. That is not humility, it is method.

Slowness reveals Tarraxo technique instead of hiding it.
